The environment affects the development of brain cells, regulates the wiring of these cells, and affects which of these cells live or die. This makes it possible for changes generated by an individual s environment to occur genetically to the next generation by epigenesis, the ability of cells to turn genes on and off in response to the environmental influences experienced by those cells.
